English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language, (ESL) classes are offered every week and include lessons on reading, writing, and grammar, with an emphasis on developing conversational skills.

Learning English as a second language can help women increase their potential for employment in the business field. The women who attend this class also experience increased self-esteem, because they are able to speak with their children’s teachers, interact at stores, and speak with health care providers, all to the benefit of their family's livelihood.

The women at Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza all agree that it is absolutely necessary to learn English, because being bilingual is really an asset in the United States. Through this class, doing something as basic as going to the store can be a fun and exciting experience when they can express themselves like everyone else!

The ESL classes are open to women and men, because they improve employment potential and are a pathway to obtaining citizenship status.

Learning English helps bridge gaps and eliminates barriers, and that's what Centro Mujeres de la Esperanza is all about!
